Cape Girardeau County voters will join fellow citizens in the state and nation Tuesday to help make decisions ranging from who will occupy the White House the next four years to whether bingo will be legalized in Missouri; with the promise of perfect election weather -- clear skies and mild temperatures -- the prediction of 26,000 county voters made by County Clerk Rodney Miller may be on target.

State Rep. Jerry Ford was honored as "The Most Wanted Man" at last night's Heritage Ball; supporters of Ford earned him the right to possess the traveling plaque for "King of the Ball" until the 1981 ball rolls around; the ball is a fund raiser for the Glenn House.

50 years ago: Nov. 2, 1955

Cape Girardeau will pay final solemn tribute Sunday to the bravery and loyalty of a gallant man; Pfc. Richard Wilson, won the nation's highest honor, the Medal of Honor, and lost his life doing so in action in Korea on Oct. 21, 1950; the young soldier's body will arrive in Cape Girardeau Saturday and will be buried Sunday afternoon in Memorial Park with full military honors.

A number of hunters from Cape Girardeau and elsewhere are back home with deer trophies; the hunt started yesterday and will run to late Saturday.

75 years ago: Nov. 2, 1930

The Rev. Theo. Lehmann of Loudonville, Ohio, is visiting his brother, the Rev. Reinhart Lehmann; the former delivers the sermon at the morning service at the Evangelical Church.

Services at the New McKendree Methodist Church at Jackson are conducted by Cape Girardeau ministers; the Rev. S.C. Headrick, pastor of Maple Avenue Methodist Church, preaches at the morning hour, and the Rev. W.C. Ellzey, assistant pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, addresses the congregation in the evening; New McKendree's new pastor, the Rev. F.L. Wilshire, will take up his new duties next week.

100 years ago: Nov. 2, 1905

Changes go into effect in the police force; by order of the mayor, Capt. H.H. Miles has been brought downtown to watch over wards one and two, while Jack Adkins goes to Haarig to look over wards three and four; this action was taken after the businessmen of Main Street petition the mayor to return Miles to his old post.

Fred Pape has moved to his new home on Broadway, west of Pacific Street.
