A Springville, Tenn., couple were killed Sunday morning when the vehicle they were in struck an embankment in Butler County.

Harold Meyer, 72, and his wife, Peggy, 68, were traveling on U.S. 60, two miles north of Poplar Bluff, Mo., when the accident occurred.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway into the median and became airborne, striking an embankment.

Harold Meyer was pronounced dead at the scene and Peggy Meyer was airlifted to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where she later died at approximately 11:30 a.m.
