Anderson wins two events at tennis tournament

Shane Anderson won two turkeys at the Turkey Day Tennis Tournament on Sunday in Jackson.

Anderson repeated as the men's open singles champion, defeating Rob Hale 6-3, 7-6. Anderson also teamed up with Ken Campbell to win the men's open doubles championship match 6-0, 7-6 against Jerry Kinnaman and Fredericktown's Jeff Hufford.

Blake Branum defeated Andrew Shupert 6-0, 6-0 in the men's A singles division title game, and Allison DeField won the women's open round robin.

Jackson Parks hosts Points for Pizza shootout

The Jackson Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Points for Pizza Hot Shot Basketball Contest.

In the girls portion, Shelby Beussink won the 9 to 11-year old division and Ashley Humphrey won the 12-14 division. For the boys, Braxton McDowell was the 9-11 champion, Alex Beussink won the 12-14 class and Richard Andrews captured the 15-17 title.

SEMO Judo Club wins seven medals at meet

The SEMO Judo Club brought home three gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the St. Louis Open Judo Tournament at Hillsboro, Mo., on Nov. 5.

The SEMO club consisted of junior members Abby Crouch, Alex Rhodes and Marcus Rhodes along with the senior members Crystal Pierce, Andy Dodd, Brent Panno and John Volkerding.

The club will compete next on Jan. 7 in Fenton, Mo.

Southeast roller hockey team enjoys 3-0 weekend

The Southeast Missouri State University Roller Hockey Club went 3-0 in the first weekend of the Great Plains Collegiate Inline Hockey League tournament.

Southeast defeated Kansas State 10-2 in the first game before edging Southern Illinois University-Carbondale 6-4 and St. Louis University 6-5. Prior to the win, Southeast had not defeated SLU in three years.

Marriott wins inaugural 5K Fund Run

Delbert Marriott claimed the overall title in the inaugural Sport Management 5-kilometer Fund Run at the Cape County South Park on Saturday.

Marriott completed the race in 16 minutes, 10 seconds, followed by Brandon Dragone in 17:04 and Logan Davis in 17:09.

Jessica Drew won the women's title in 22:34, followed by Sally Smith (27:34) and Linda Hanebrink (27:48).

J.C. Reeves won the youth mile run, Jacob Alsup was second and Lisa Henderson took third place.

The event, which served as a fundraiser for sport management majors at Southeast Missouri State University, raised over $1,000.

Friedham, Apple Creek lead Dartball league

Friedheim and Apple Creek both won games on Tuesday to secure a tie atop the Cape-Perry L.L.L. Dartball league standings. The two teams share a 12-3 record, followed by Trinity and Shawneetown at 11-4.
