The Southeast Missourian will become seven-day morning newspaper this fall when it begins to publish regular Saturday edition on Oct. 2, announces Wally Lage, publisher; last fall the Missourian published several special Saturday issues; it switched to morning publication from afternoon delivery three years ago.

Fairview United Methodist Church at Millersville celebrates its 100th anniversary; district superintendent Mary Ellen Meyers is guest speaker during morning worship service; carry-in lunch is served at noon, and Ozark Harmony Boys of Fredericktown, Mo., sing in afternoon.

25 years ago: June 27, 1978

Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority will apparently share $100,000 in state funds with two other port authorities in Southeast Missouri; Missouri Department of Transportation, through which funds are distributed, has unofficially notified port authority at Scott City that it will share money with similar facilities in Jefferson and Pemiscot counties.

Outpouring of public support for Jackson High School principal James R. Nelson, whose petition was threatened by secret attempt at demotion, brings assurances from school board that he will remain in his position next school year.

50 years ago: June 27, 1953

Three Midnight Sun horses took senior walking horse honors at Capaha Bridal Club show at Houck Stadium last night; club members decided to go ahead with show -- despite mid-afternoon announcement of postponement -- when State College officials agreed to permit showing on cinder track; rain rendered turf oval at stadium unusable.

Completion of William Street extension which will provide another through traffic artery from river to Highway 61 should come within next 30 days, says Louis Brune, commissioner of public works; street has been cut all way through from its previous terminus at Louisiana Avenue, but finish work on most of extended part hasn't been completed.

75 years ago: June 27, 1928

With only one portion of Southeast Missouri still seriously affected by floodwaters, conditions throughout district are becoming normal, as excessive rains have halted, at least temporarily; new rise in St. Francis River, which threatens immediate vicinity of Kennett again, brings only flood threat in district.

Plans for erection of fountain in Murtaugh Park, south of Frisco passenger station, were presented to city council yesterday by Mrs. E.G. Gramling on behalf of Civic Improvement Association, which will have charge of work.
