Stop the criticism

COACHES FACE enough criticism from opposing fans, their own fans when they don't always win and their own players when those players don't get to play. It may be good entertainment to read anonymous, critical and often inaccurate statements on internet message boards, but I don't think anyone should have to see comments like that in our Sunday morning newspaper.

(The opinions expressed in Fan Speak are edited to eliminate inaccuracies, and criticism of high school coaches or athletes are not published.)

The real reason

WHILE COVERING the Oran tournament for Tuesday's edition, you reported that Bell City and Scott County Central canceled their regular-season basketball game due to the number of times that they could possibly play each other at different times during the season.

(The reporting indeed was incorrect but technically accurate: It seems some parties this season would like the number of meetings between the two teams to be zero. It has been confirmed that Scott County Central was the subject of a Missouri State High School Activities Association investigation with a decision likely in January, and that Bell City lodged the complaint that sparked that investigation.)

Correction

ANTHONY BOLLINGER from Meadow Heights scored 22 points, not just two against Leopold on Thursday night as was misreported in Friday's paper. He was the top scorer. If you add the points up for Meadow Heights, you will see you the total is off by 20.

(The Southeast Missourian received incorrect information when the game was reported. We apologize for the error.)
