AARP safety driving class to be held Dec. 12, 13

The AARP safety driving class, given in two sessions both of which must be attended for a certificate of completion, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 12 and 13 at the Bank of Missouri, 3247 William St. The bank is near Wal-Mart. Enrollment is limited to 20. Call Robert Harper, assistant coordinator and instructor, at 243-2396 for more information.

Community book sale to promote literacy

A community book sale, sponsored by YELL and the Southeast Missourian, is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Osage Community Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway. Scholastic books for preschool children to adult will be 50 percent off the suggested retail price. All proceeds benefit area schools, the public library, Special Olympics and the YELL Foundation. Contact Vickie Howard at 335-3356 for more information.

Community Caring Council luncheon planned

The Community Caring Council will hold a luncheon Dec. 16 to meet with representatives from the Missouri Foundation for Health to receive information about the foundation's new priorities for the coming year. The group will meet at noon. Those attending will be notified of the meeting place. Only the first 50 reservations will be taken. RSVP no later than Friday to Tom Davisson at 651-3747, extension 101.

Horizons Enrichment Center contributes food

Participants at Horizons Enrichment Center spent all of November collecting canned food items. The food was contributed to Jefferson Elementary School's food drive for distribution to needy familes for the holiday season. The center is a day program for adults with special needs licensed by the Department of Health and Senior Services and certified by the Department of Mental Health.
