Gilbert C. Bruhl of Pine Bluff, Ark., formerly of rural Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at the age of 91. He was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Illmo, the only child of Jakob and Hulda Roth Bruhl. He was baptized and confirmed at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Illmo, where he and Virginia Heuer were married April 18, 1942...

Gilbert C. Bruhl of Pine Bluff, Ark., formerly of rural Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at the age of 91.

He was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Illmo, the only child of Jakob and Hulda Roth Bruhl. He was baptized and confirmed at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Illmo, where he and Virginia Heuer were married April 18, 1942.

Gilbert was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He proudly served during World War II, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1945.

He was a master cabinetmaker, working 34 years for the former L.H. Landgraf Lumber Co.

The Bruhls were former members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills. Since moving to Pine Bluff in 1995, they have been members of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Gilbert was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Gloria Bruhl of Bluegrove, Texas, Win and Rita Bruhl of Little Rock, Ark.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and J.P. Dunger of White Hall, Ark.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Taborri Bruhl (Susan) of New Haven, Vt., Kim Bruhl (Candy) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Juok Bethard (Wes) of San Antonio, Texas, Heidi Vogtsberger (Roy) of Wichita Falls, Jakob Bruhl (Lesley) of Rantoul, Ill., Joseph Bruhl (Kathryn) of Enterprise, Ala., John Bruhl of Little Rock, Phillip Dunger (Leeanne) of Pine Bluff, Christy Young (Jason) of Sherrill, Ark.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements in Pine Bluff are as follows:

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pine Bluff, with the Rev. Dean Clausing officiating.

Arrangements in Cape Girardeau are as follows:

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Egypt Mills, with full military honors. The Rev. Kevin Olson will officiate.
