SIKESTON, Mo. -- William Cline Ables, 87, of Sikeston died July 4, 2003.

He was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Oran, Mo., son of Lawrence W. and Etta Pearl Moore Ables. He and Nota Dover were married July 27, 1946.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and an ordained Baptist minister. He was owner and operator of Ables Construction Company and later served as physical facilities director for Sikeston's public schools. In 1988, he was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and in 1991 was selected to the Honors Board for his contributions to youth programs in the community.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Don Ables of Dexter, Mo.; three daughters, Gretta Walton Catanese and Marilyn Jo Cavanaugh, both of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Marilyn Boyce of Sikeston; a sister, Alma Gail Henderson of Sikeston; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, a brother and a great-grandson.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Tom Bray officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
