Pianist Jack Gibbons to perform at Notre Dame

Jack Gibbons, British George Gershwin pianist, will perform in tandem with the Notre Dame Regional High School Concert Choir at 8 p.m. Feb. 3 at the school's cafetorium. Miller to perform organ recital Feb. 9

Southeast Missouri State University music department chair Dr. Gary Miller will perform an organ recital on Feb. 9 at Old St. Vincent's Church at 8 p.m. Miller is an accomplished organist who has performed both in the United States and worldwide. The recital will consist of works by Buxtehude, Bach, Durufle and Vidor. For more information, call 651-2265.

River City Players to open 2006 season Feb. 10

The River City Players will open its 2006 season with the farce "It Runs in the Family," showing Feb. 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 8 p.m. (dinner at 7 p.m.) and Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. (show only) at Port Cape Girardeau's River City Yacht Club. For more information, call Port Cape at 334-0954.

Central High produces 'Steel Magnolias'

Cape Girardeau Central High School's Red Dagger drama club will perform "Steel Magnolias" Feb. 3 through 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Junior High auditorium. For more information, call Central High at 335-8228.

Edgerton honored with Artist Teacher of the Year

Southeast Missouri State University music professor Dr. Sara Edgerton was honored Thursday with the Missouri Chapter of the American String Teachers Association's Artist Teacher of the Year. Edgerton, who also directs the Southeast Symphony Orchestra, teaches at Southeast and plays cello with several string ensembles based locally and regionally, including the Southeast Baroque Trio, the St. Louis-based Kingsbury Ensemble and Ensemble Musical Offering out of Milwaukee, Wis.

Sons of the Western Bootheel to perform

KENNETT, Mo. -- The Kennett Friends of Music will continue its 2005-2006 season on Sunday with the Sons of the Western Bootheel performing at 2 p.m. at the Kennett High School Auditorium. The group is an Old West-style novelty act, performing songs and cutting up with jokes. Admission is free. For more information, call (573) 888-6396.

Deadline approaching for ArtsCape poster entries

The deadline for poster submission for the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's 2006 ArtsCape festival is Tuesday. The winning poster design will be used in the promotion of the festival. The contest is open to artists 18 and older, with a poster design that must celebrate the arts, Cape Girardeau and the Southeast Missouri region. Entries must be original, full-color works.
