Heather Jenkins had a pair of top-six finishes Saturday to pace the Southeast Missouri State track and field team at the Hoosier Relays hosted by the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.

The event attracted about 30 schools, according to Southeast coach Joey Haines.

Jenkins was fourth in the 20-pound weight throw and sixth in the shot put.

Walter Washington had Southeast's best individual performance, finishing third in the 600 meters.

Miles Smith, who competed at the NCAA championship meet and ran with the gold-medal winning U.S. 1,600-meter relay team in the world championships last year, finished fourth in the 400 meters. He finished in 47.06 seconds, while Indiana's David Neville, the Big Ten champion in the outdoors 400 last year, was first in 46.69.

Smith and Washington teamed with George Medley and Chris Williams for a third-place finish in the 1,600 relay. They finished in 3:13.19. Jackson State won in 3:09.82 -- the only provisional NCAA qualifying time in the race -- while Kentucky was second in 3:12.04.

Bilal Hameed was fourth for Southeast in the men's triple jump.

"I'm pretty happy with our performances," Haines said. "I feel good about the way we competed."
