Vyron Harmon of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Scott City, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian Irene Boehme of Jackson. Other survivors include daughters Martha Joiner of Cape Girardeau and LaDonna Suttle of Albuquerque, N.M., three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Teddy and DeWitt Harmon of Chaffee, Mo., and a sister, Lucille Harmon Wilson of Fredericktown, Mo.

Harmon attended school in Chaffee and at Southeast Missouri State University. He was a pilot who loved flying, music, working with TV, radio and electronics. He was in the National Guard and a member of the 140th Infantry Band. Because of problems overseas, the National Guard was mobilized to Camp Robinson in Little Rock, Ark., on Dec. 23, 1940, for training with the 35th Division. The bombing of Pearl Harbor sent the 35th Division to San Diego, Calif., where Harmon continued to play in the band.

With his knowledge of radio and electronics, Harmon was soon ordered to report to 115th radio intelligence at the Presidio in San Francisco. The duration of the war was spent working with intercept stations for enemy codes and dirigible bombs along the West Coast. He was discharged Nov. 1, 1945.
