ArtsCape poster to be unveiled March 18

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will hold an unveiling party for this year's winning ArtsCape promotional poster design on March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Riverview Room at Buckner Brewing Co. Entertainment will be provided by the Bruce Zimmerman Band. The winning poster was submitted by a local artist, and the design will be used to promote the ArtsCape festival to be held in May. Local artists picked for Best of Missouri Hands

Local clay artists Pam Duncan and Julie Bricknell were recently awarded juried membership status in the Best of Missouri Hands artisan organization. Selection means the artisan has developed the craft beyond mere competence of technique into high-quality work. Bricknell operates JBrick Pottery at Sunset Ridge in Pocahontas, Mo., and Duncan will be teaching classes at Jars of Clay Pottery at 823 Broadway. Children, teen chorus auditions at the Muny

ST. LOUIS -- The 2006 Muny auditions for children ages 7 through 13 will be held on March 4 and for teens ages 14 through 19 on March 5. All people auditioning are required to prepare eight measures of an age-appropriate song and bring their own sheet music in the key in which they are singing. Accompaniment will be provided. Depot displays African art, artifacts and textiles

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Depot Museum will hold an exhibition of African art, artifacts and textiles through March 30 in its galleries. The exhibit is made up of four collections with items from Zimbabwe, Senegal, Kenya and South Africa, including wood carvings, ceramic and glass art, beaded spears and walking sticks covered in animal hide, musical instruments, clothing and other items. Casting calls for local independent film today

Schrader Turner Films, based in Jackson, will hold casting calls for its short film "Mere Sentience" today and Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. The roles come with pay. Needed are a lead actor to play mid- to late 30s, three supporting actors also to play mid- to late 30s, up to 10 actors for small roles and 20 people for extras. WSIU to broadcast meth documentary Thursday

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- WSIU-TV will broadcast two special shows on Thursday at 8 p.m. addressing the region's methamphetamine problem. The broadcasts will begin with the PBS special "The Meth Epidemic." That show will be followed by a local one-hour live broadcast of a panel discussion with area experts called "Mid-America's Meth Epidemic." Call-in opportunities will be available.
