Juel L. "Pete" Strong, 77, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Scopus, Mo., son of the late Loomis and Bertha Hanners Strong. He and Gladys L. Friese were married Oct. 17, 1954. Juel L. "Pete" Strong, 77, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Scopus, Mo., son of the late Loomis and Bertha Hanners Strong. He and Gladys L. Friese were married Oct. 17, 1954. They had been married nearly 51 years when Gladys passed away Aug. 2, 2005.

Pete was a PFC in the U.S. Army, serving from Dec. 13, 1950, to Sept. 12, 1952, during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and a United Nations Service Medal.

Pete worked for Reliable Life Insurance Co., Saveway Oil Co. of Scott City, and retired from Kasten Masonry in Jackson. He had farmed in the Daisy area since the early 1970s.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson since 1960.

Loving survivors include two sisters-in-law, Ruth Moneyhun and her friend Randy Fronabarger of Jackson, and Betty Friese of Friedheim; three nephews, Ken Friese of Friedheim, Mark Friese of Jackson, Alan Moneyhun of Jackson; seven great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Loomis Strong Jr.; two nieces; and a great-nephew.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion Service will be held at 7:30. Visitation will continue Friday after 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery with graveside military honors.
