St. Vincent's duo of Corey Brueckner and Zach Richardet were steady again Wednesday, using top-10 finishes at the Class 1 District 1 golf tournament at Piney Valley Golf Course in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., to qualify for the state tournament.

Brueckner and Richardet, both juniors, had led the Indians throughout the season. It was Brueckner who had the edge Wednesday, finishing one shot off the lead for a 4-over 76 and a third-place finish. Two players tied for medalist honors at 75.

"He started off with a 37 on the front nine," St. Vincent coach Tom Prost said of Brueckner. "Then he went out on the back nine and had a few birdies, he just had a few too many bogeys at the end."

Richardet used the opposite approach, with a 38 on the back nine to come in sixth with an 80.

The top 10 individuals qualify for the state tournament.

"I'm proud of those two boys," Prost said. "They kept it together and played so consistent. They knew they had to play well today and they did."

Thayer repeated as district champion with a team score of 327 and earned the team berth in the state tournament. St. Vincent finished second with a 354.

Unlike last year, the Indians were not able to qualify four individuals to earn a chance to count in the team standings at state. Jacob Sutterer came in next for the Indians with a 96, and David Rhoden shot a 102.

Brueckner and Richardet will compete in the Class 1 state tournament May 15 and 16 at Island Green Golf Course in Republic, Mo.
