Babe Ruth tryouts rescheduled for Saturday

The Cape Girardeau Sr. Babe Ruth tryouts have been rescheduled to Saturday at 1 p.m. due to the recent tragedy involving a Notre Dame student.

The tryouts will be at Notre Dame.

Players must be born after April 30, 1987. For information, contact Alan Wengert, 243-4696.

Blechle scores ace at Cape Jaycee course

Michael Blechle aced the eighth hole on April 30 at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.

He used a 6-iron for his hole in one on the par-3, 150-yard hole.

Witnesses were Durwood Thurman, Roger Harms and Kenneth Brown.

Vanden Brook takes top honors at country club

Brenda Vanden Brook had her putter working last week at Cape Girardeau Country Club Ladies Day.

She won first place in the play of the day, low putts.

Catharine Weed placed second, while Sarah Cochrane, Marlena Jones and Judi Brey tied for third place.

Classic United U-11 wins Columbia Pride tourney

The Classic United under-11 boys soccer team placed first in the Columbia Pride soccer tournament, played April 21 through 23.

Classic United finished 4-0 and outscored its opponents 22-1.

Members of the team, which was pictured in the April 16 edition, are: Riley Bauer, Garret McMillan, Lance Brannock, Michael Depuy, Kendall Townsend, Blake Kingree, Aaron Huber, Conner Fanger, Cody Lunsford, Nicholas Barnes, Luke Mocherman, Austin Gammons, Carson Bruenderman, Logan Buchheit, Matthew Parsons and Zach Schmitt.

The team is coached by Barry Zerbie and Devon Barnes.

Johnson medalist at Kimbeland Country Club

Barb Johnson was the medalist Thursday in Kimbeland Country Club ladies golf play.

Margaret Sanders won the play of the day championship flight. Harriet Drusch and Lillian Schneider tied atop the A flight, and Dorothy Holland won the B flight.

Couch, Morian first in Friday couples play

Brandon Couch and Paige Morian placed first in the Friday Night Couples golf action at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Ron and Dana Underwood placed second, while Jerry and Claudia VanOostrom placed third.
