Veterans home names employee of the year

Sherri Montgomery, RN, was elected employee of the year for 2005 by her co-workers of the Missouri Veterans Home. The announcement was made at the annual Veterans Home Employee Appreciation Night held at VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau. The post provided the hall and much of the food to show its appreciation for the care given at the 150-bed state-operated facility.

Medical association honors state senator

The Missouri State Medical Association presented state Sen. Jason Crowell with the 2006 Legislative Award for leadership, integrity and legislative efforts in the name of organized medicine in Missouri. In the 2005 session, Crowell was instrumental in reforming Missouri's system of civil liability and clamping down on the high insurance premiums.

Area woman places third in corn contest

Katherine Hinkebein of Chaffee, Mo., recently won third place in the Ridge Till Irrigated division of the 2005 National Corn Growers Association's corn yield contest in Missouri. In the annual contest, growers compete within a broad range of corn production classes.
