BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- A guard is recovering after she was stabbed in the eye by a prison inmate, authorities said.
The Missouri Department of Corrections said the attack happened Friday night at the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center after an inmate grabbed the female guard from behind. The inmate repeatedly stabbed the guard in the face, and one eye was "severely punctured," the corrections department said in a news release.
The officer, whose name was not released, was flown to a St. Louis hospital where she is being treated for her wounds.
