Neighborhood safety group meets Thursday
Neighborhood Connection will meet Thursday at 101 Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. The steering meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. with a social at 6, followed by the general meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and learn how to make their neighborhood a safer, healthier place.
The Alzheimer Association's Safe Return program will be available for registration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at HealthPoint Plaza, 2126 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau. This free service for individuals with Alzheimer's disease assists in safely returning those who might wander. Families should bring a recent photo with contact information and a wrist measurement of the Alzheimer's sufferer. The Cape Girardeau County Pachyderm Club will meet Thursday at Ryan's Family Steakhouse in Cape Girardeau. The Dutch meal is at 6:15 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. The featured speaker will be David Limbaugh. The public is welcome to attend. For more information, call Gerald Adams at 243-4199.
The Children, Youth Committee and Family Transition Team second annual garage sale will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Red Star Baptist Church Activities Center, 1316 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Items donated by community members will be sold to benefit the special needs of families with children and support of foster children in the community. Today is the last day to drop off items at the horse trailer parked in front of Towers complex on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. Just leave items near the trailer. Team members will be checking periodically for dropped-off items. After that date, items should be brought to Red Star Baptist Church. Call Laura at 651-8630 to make sure the building is open.
Old Goshen Cemetery Association members are invited to a 12:30 p.m. picnic prior to the annual meeting at 2 p.m. May 21 at the building on cemetery grounds. Meat will be provided; bring a salad or dessert and lawn chairs. Professional landscaping plans will be presented. All members are urged to attend if possible. The Eftink/Eeftink reunion will begin at 11 a.m. June 25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Leopold, Mo. According to Bollinger County records, this year marks 150 years since John and Grada Eftink purchased their first piece of land in Bollinger County. Old family stories are being sought for the family history and may be read at the reunion. Bring old family photos and a covered dish. Paper products and drinks will be provided. The Salvation Army summer day camp for children ages 5 to 10 will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12 to Aug. 4. Lunch will be served; activities include swimming, movies, bowling, skating, Bible class and crafts. There is a cost. Call 335-7000 for more information.
The Jackson High School alumni reunion is scheduled for July 21 at the Jackson Knights of Columbus Hall. The alumni reunion includes classes through 1949. The classes of 1950 to 1956 are welcome.
