Perryville junior Brittney Castleberry had a big day at the Class 3 sectional meet in North County on Saturday, setting school records in both the 100 and 300 hurdles to qualify for the state meet in both events.

The top four in each event qualify for the Class 3 and 4 state track and field championships which begin Friday in Jefferson City.

Castleberry won the 100 hurdles in 15.68 seconds, and won the 300 hurdles in 48.14 seconds. The old record in the 100 hurdles was 16.1 seconds.

"She looked really good in both hurdle races, she was really booking," Perryville girls coach Tim Steffens said.

The Pirates were able to get two of their four boys relays through to the state meet, finishing second in both the 1,600 relay and 3,200 relay. Perryville was all-state in both events last year.

Ryan Regelsperger, Jesse Kueker, Jacob Hayden and Kyle Bert ran the 3,200 relay in 8:14.27, 10 seconds faster than their top time this season.

In the 1,600 relay, the team of Adam Westmoreland, Kueker, Hayden and Kris Cottner finished in 3:27.17. The time was Perryville's second-fastest 1,600 relay time in school history.

"They ran really well," Perryville boys coach Lance Bell said. "Those were the two events I really thought had a chance to get through."

Josh Hayden also qualified for the Pirates in the 110 hurdles. Hayden finished fourth in 15.56 seconds. Hayden finished seventh in the 300 hurdles after hitting a hurdle down the stretch.

ND's Zimmer takes second

Notre Dame had just one state qualifier in sophomore Mark Zimmer. Zimmer finished second in the 400 in 50.86 seconds. The Bulldogs finished fifth in both the 3,200 relay and 1,600 relay.
