Cape C.C. hosted women's tournament

The team of Luanne Kiefner, Pat Strom, Betty Michel and Ernie Kidd won the Women's Golf Association Memorial Scramble/Rally for the Cure on Saturday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

The team of Beth Mapes, Catharine Weed, Claudia Van Oostrom and Betty Price finished second.

Shirley Morris won closest to the pin on No. 11.

Jackson Jr. Legion to host tournament

The Jackson Junior Legion baseball team will host the Milton F. Nitsch Memorial Tournament this week at Jackson's Legion Field.

The eight-team tournament begins today with two games: Jackson will play Twin Rivers at 6 p.m. and Cape Girardeau and Sikeston will follow at 8.

Pool play games will continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The winner of each four-team pool will meet for the championship at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Pool A: Jackson, Florissant, St. Clair, Twin Rivers

Pool B: Sikeston, Kirkwood, De Soto, Cape Girardeau

Schedule

Thursday: Jackson vs. Twin Rivers, 6 p.m.; Sikeston vs. Cape Girardeau, 8 p.m.

Friday: St. Clair vs. Florissant, 7 p.m.; Kirkwood vs. De Soto, 9 p.m.

Saturday: St. Clair vs. Twin Rivers, 10 a.m.; Jackson vs. Florissant, 12:30 p.m.; Sikeston vs. De Soto, 3 p.m.; Cape Girardeau vs. Kirkwood, 4:30 p.m.

Sunday: Sikeston vs. Kirkwood, 9 a.m.; Jackson vs. St. Clair, 11:30 a.m.; Cape Girardeau vs. De Soto, 2 p.m.; Florissant vs. Twin Rivers, 4:30 p.m.; Championship, Pool A winner vs. Pool B winner, 7 p.m.

PGA Southeast Mo. Junior Series to begin

The PGA Southeast Missouri Junior Series will begin its eight-tournament golf schedule on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Kennett Country Club in Kennett, Mo.

The series is for boys and girls ages 10 to 19. There will be age divisions for boys and girls in three classes of play: 9-holes regular (ages 10-11, 12-13, 14-18), 18-holes regular (12-13, 14-15, 16-18) and tour (14-15, 16-19).

A cumulative point system will use the best four tournaments in each division. The top three cumulative point winners will qualify for the year-end tournament.

The series will also include clinics.

Cost is $75 for the nine-hole division and $120 for the 18-hole divisions.
