The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons American Legion team split a home doubleheader with Calvert City, Ky., on Monday.

Ford & Sons won the opener 5-1 on the strength of a four-hitter from starter Lance Young, who struck out seven in the seven-inning complete game. Ty Craft and Blake Slattery had two hits and scored two runs apiece.

In the second game, Calvert City took advantage of five errors and scored 11 runs over the final three innings for a 14-4 win.

Jeremy Brinkmeyer had two of Cape's six hits in the game. He also ] picked up the loss.

Jackson also splits two

The Jackson American Legion team took one of two from Festus in a road doubleheader on Monday.

Jackson (3-5) edged Festus 1-0 in the first game before losing in a 9-0 rout in the nightcap.

In the opener, Brandon Cooper stole home in the top of the second inning to account for the game's lone run. Cameron Heath had two hits for Jackson.

Logan Lawson pitched seven innings for the win. He struck out five batters and allowed two hits.

Levi Petzoldt suffered the loss in the second game, allowing three earned runs in three innings.

Zach Ayers and Chad Minson had two hits apiece for Jackson.
