Symphony preview to be held Sunday

The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will preview its 2006-2007 concert season with the Symphony Preview III concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in Rose Theatre. WSIU-TV plans to air music specials

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Through the rest of the summer, WSIU-TV, Carbondale's PBS affiliate, will air a string of music specials on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Featured artists include K.T. Southeast theater grad heads to Julliard

Recent Southeast Missouri State University theater program graduate Emily Wilson will head to New York City in August for a prestigious internship with the Julliard school of the arts. Wilson will work for nine months as a stage management intern, assisting production managers in opera, drama and dance productions. Wilson is a native of Carlyle, Ill.

Artist, curator to speak at St. Louis Art Museum

ST. LOUIS -- Artist Matthew Ritchie will join St. Louis Art Museum curator Robin Clarke for a free lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday on the museum's "Remote Viewing (Invented Worlds in Recent Painting and Drawing)" exhibition. Doctors and lawyers start softball game

The doctors and lawyers are no longer satisfied with basketball. Now they want to give a go at softball. The first annual Doctors/Lawyers Softball Game is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at Arena Park. A tailgate party will precede the game at 4:30 p.m. Proceeds from ticket sales go to benefit the Community Counseling Center Foundation. Midwest Folk Festival debuts in Illinois

BISHOP HILL, Ill. -- The sixth annual Midwest Folk Festival will visit Illinois for the first time this year, Aug. 5 and 6 at Bishop Hill. More than 20 art forms from 10 folk and ethnic groups will be showcased in live performances, hands-on activities, demonstrations, displays and an artist-led children's area. Trapt cancels DuQuoin State Fair appearance

DUQUOIN, Ill. -- Alternative rock band Trapt announced that it will cancel its free Aug. 26 concert at the DuQuoin State Fair. All other fair entertainment is still on the schedule, including a performance by the Jerry Ford Orchestra on Sept. 4, the fair's final night.
