For the second year in a row a local author has won the Missouri Humanities Council Governor's Book Award. The book chronicles the history of the area through the story of the Matthews family. Last year Morley Swingle's book "The Gold of Cape Girardeau" was awarded with the same distinction.

Both books were published by the Southeast Missouri State University Press.
