Gilbert H. Beussink, 76, of Jackson passed away Friday, July 21, 2006, at his home, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 31, 1930, in Leopold, Mo., son of Herman and Mary Beussink. Gilbert H. Beussink, 76, of Jackson passed away Friday, July 21, 2006, at his home, following a lengthy illness.

He was born March 31, 1930, in Leopold, Mo., son of Herman and Mary Beussink. He and Beulah Holzum were married July 5, 1952.

Gilbert served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 6, 1951, to Dec. 1, 1953, during the Korean Conflict.

He was a skilled carpenter, retiring from Carpenters Local Union 1770 in Cape Girardeau. Gilbert was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, a 4th Degree member of the Bishop Timon Knights of Columbus 6405 in Jackson, Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion in Jackson, and the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge.

Loving survivors include his wife of 54 years; a son, Keith "Butch" (Judy) Beussink of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Sandy (Steve) Mize of Jackson; four brothers, Albert and Bernard Beussink of Jackson, Leonard and Herman Beussink of Gordonville; three sisters, Anna Spooler, Betty Arnzen and Berniece Ziegler, all of Jackson; and six grandchildren, Brett Wise, Dana (Matt) Reno, Daron Wilkinson, Heather Mize, Jessica Wilkinson and Garrett Mize.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Beussink.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, with parish prayers at 7, a Knights of Columbus rosary and an American Legion service following.

Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Monsignor Edward Eftink officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with graveside military honors conducted by VFW Post 3838.
