CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Mary Margaret "Mae" Hogan, 82, of Carbondale died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro, Ill.

She was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Holywood, Ireland, daughter of Harold and Anne Walsh Stacey. She and Raymond F. Hogan were married in 1945 in Bristol, England. He died in August 1993.

Hogan lived in India eight years with her family. She returned to Bristol and attended Bristol University, and worked for the BBC.

After moving to East St. Louis, Ill., she worked in social services, including director of volunteers at St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis. She was a field representative with Southwest Egyptian Area Agency on Aging in East St. Louis, and Egyptian Area Agency on Aging in Carterville, Ill., from which she retired. She was a member of the Newman Center in Carbondale.

Survivors include four sons, Ronald Hogan of Elkhorn, Neb., Dennis Hogan of Granite City, Ill., Raymond Hogan of Anna, Ill., Michael Hogan of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a daughter, Ann Hogan of Murphysboro; a brother, Harold Stacey of Bristol; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, an infant daughter and a sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, Ill. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden, with the Rev. Federico Higuera officiating. Entombment will be in Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Belleville, Ill., at a later date.
