Jackson team second in regional

An area 10-and-under Cal Ripken Minor League team recently finished second in the state tournament and in the Midwest Regional tournament.

The Jackson Indians, a district postseason team picked by league coaches, finished ended their regional run with a 12-9 loss to Minnesota in the finals at Farmington, Mo. The win advanced Minnesota to the Cal Ripken World Series in Virginia.

Jackson held a 5-4 lead until the top of the third inning of the regional final, and after a pair of tied scores Minnesota went ahead for good in the fifth.

Jackson began its playoff run in the district tournament, which it hosted. Jackson defeated Cape Girardeau and Chaffee twice and Scott County once for the title. From there, Jackson opened its district tournament with a loss to Kennett, then defeated Lebanaon, Washington and Kennett before falling to Boonville in the championship. But when South Dakota dropped out of the Midwest Regional, Jackson was moved up to fill that opening.

At Farmington, Jackson lost to Iowa, then beat Kansas, Boonville, Iowa and Mineral Area to set up the final against Minnesota.
