Harold Stueve

FROHNA, Mo. -- Harold J.J. Stueve, 88, of Diamond Bar, Calif., died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at his home.

He was born Dec. 16, 1917, at Frohna.

Stueve went to California in 1939. He married Vernice Evans, who died in 1967. He and Ruth Porter were married in 1968.

He was a co-founder with his brothers, Edgar and Elmer Stueve, of California dairy giant Alta Dena in 1944. The company was the first in the industry to print photographs of missing children on its milk cartons. The Stueves sold the company's processing operation to a French firm in 1989.

He was a longtime Monrovia city councilmember, and became mayor in 1968.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Lloyd of Oakdale, Calif., Cleason of Covina, Calif., David of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Donna Clarke of LaVerne, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 brothers and sisters.

A memorial service was held Aug. 13 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Diamond Bar.

Douglass and Zook Mortuary in Monrovia was in charge of arrangements.
