The Central girls tennis team knocked off visiting Parkway West and Parkway Central in a mini-tournament at home Saturday. The Tigers defeated Parkway West 9-0 and Parkway Central 7-2. The Central girls tennis team knocked off visiting Parkway West and Parkway Central in a mini-tournament at home Saturday.

The Tigers defeated Parkway West 9-0 and Parkway Central 7-2.

"I think we played really well, especially in the morning matches," Central coach Annette Slattery said. "Both teams were really competitive for us in different spots."

Lindsey Pingel won both of her singles matches at No. 2. Also sweeping their opponents were Christen Edmonds at No. 3, Carsen Bahn at No. 5 and Claire Segar at No. 6.

The doubles teams of Sarah Ford-Pingel, Edmonds-Kristen Ford and Bahn-Segar swept all six doubles matches.

SOFTBALL Delta 3, Poplar Bluff 2, 8 innings

Delta senior Shea Smith drove in younger sister Taylor Smith with a squeeze bunt and the help of a Poplar Bluff error to win the Bobcats' softball opener at home.

Taylor Smith was able to score when the throw to third sailed into the outfield after she collided with the shortstop coming over to cover third.

Freshman starter Kendra Burnett picked up the win, pitching all eight innings. Burnett struck out five, walked five and allowed eight hits.

Delta had just three hits, two by Shea Smith.

Central had 10 hits but managed just three runs during a home loss.

Central pitchers Kelsy Holloway and Amanda Nichols combined to allow 11 runs on 11 hits with four walks.

The Tigers (2-2) were led by Lindsay Greene, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Mia Russell and Haley Kelly also both went 2-for-3, with both of Russell's hits doubles.
