Progressive Club

The Progressive Club met Aug. 29 at Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship in Oak Ridge. There were 15 members and 19 guests present.

Club members were told that therapeutic horseback riding helps children with disabilities to learn new skills and physical goals and watch some programs.

It was decided that the club would give $50 to the therapeutic program and $50 to Seeds of Hope. At the next meeting, the group will add individual contributions. It was also discussed that the group may go to Bertrand, Mo., to help with the Seeds of Hope program once a month.

The nominating committee is Mary Lou Talley, Becky Heuer and Ellen Lorberg. Nominess will be presented at the September meeting, voted on in October and will take office in January.

The next meeting will be at the home of Shirley Bock with Dorothy Pensel serving as co-hostess.

Marine Corps League Auxiliary 426

The Marine Corps League Auxiliary Unit 426 met Aug. 17 with Vera Spicer, president, presiding.

The minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary Melissa Monia and were approved. The treasurer's report was read by Shirley Ryan.

The auxiliary will be collecting supplies for soldiers of all branches of service to be shipped to those overseas this month. Drop boxes will be placed at the Naval Reserve Center, Army Reserve and VFW Post 3838. A list will be provided.

Donation letters were sent to area businesses asking for gift cards or certificates to raffle off in baskets at the SEMO District Fair. Proceeds form the raffle are to help fund the Little Angels programs.

Volunteers are still needed for several nights of the SEMO District Fair and to cover bingo at Bingo World.

Angie Bollwerk, Department of Missouri president, read her report on the National Convention held in Quincy, Mass., in August. She was the auxiliary's national delegate. She also brought back two awards for the auxiliary: 100 percent membership gain and first place in the Memory Book competition.

The next officers' meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at VFW Post 3838. The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at the post.
