Murchie Hoffner

DONGOLA, Ill. -- Murchie D. Hoffner, 101, of Dongola died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at her home in Dongola.

She was born Aug. 6, 1905, in Dongola, daughter of Samuel J. and Susie Hargus Dillow. She and E. Glenn Hoffner were married Dec. 24, 1926. He died Nov. 27, 1997.

Hoffner was a member of the Mount Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a retired teacher, having taught for 40 years at the Lower Hoffner School, Swan Pond School, in Murphysboro, Ill., and in Pulaski County. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Pulaski-Alexander Counties and had been active in the quilters with the Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Home Extension.

Survivors include a sister, Jeanette Wuyster; a daughter-in-law, Fae Bankert, both of Dongola; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, a sister and three brothers-in-law.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dare Aden and Enloe Clemons officiating. Interment will be at Mount Zion Cemetery.
