Rita Ann Mayfield, 53, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born Feb. 8, 1953, at Chaffee, Mo., daughter of Clarence A. and Alma B. Schwartz LeGrand. She and John Mayfield were married March 14, 1981, at Cape Girardeau.

Mayfield was employed by the Missouri Department of Health in Cape Girardeau for 15 years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, John Mayfield of Gainesville, Fla., and Eric Mayfield and Doug LeGrand, both of Chaffee; four sisters, Mary Ann Jones of Marble Hill, Mo., Germaine LeGrand of Benton, Mo., Lavern Kiefer of Advance, Mo., and Helen Harris of Annapolis, Mo.; a brother, Joe LeGrand of St. Louis; a maternal grandfather, Albert Schwartz of Scott City; paternal grandparents Joe and Christine LeGrand of Benton; and two granddaughters, Lindsey LeGrand and Polly LeGrand.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by rosary services.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. David Hulshof will officiate with entombment at Cape County Memorial Park mausoleum.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 106 Farrar Drive, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63701.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
