25 years ago: Nov. 10, 1981

A former principal of May Greene School, Robert K. Renfro, becomes the fourth candidate to seek a seat on the Cape Girardeau City Council in the April 1982 municipal election; Renfro, who retired last year as principal of May Greene after 27 years in the local public school system, is making his first bid for elective office.

Voter opposition to a proposed addition to the high school gymnasium is one of the main reasons the Jackson R-2 bond issue went down to defeat in last week's election, a group of parents tells the school board; school officials say they will continue to look at alternatives to alleviate overcrowding in the district.

50 years ago: Nov. 10, 1956

The count of absentee ballots, cast in Tuesday's general election continues in the morning in the circuit courtroom at Jackson, and judges report they don't expect to complete their work until some time in the afternoon; considerable attention is focused on the race for magistrate between Roland G. Busch, Democrat, and E.C. Tuschhoff, Republican; in the unofficial returns Tuesday, Busch held a 197-vote lead.

True Taylor, former administrator at Southeast Missouri Hospital, has been appointed administrator of the new Jefferson Memorial Hospital at Crystal City, Mo.

75 years ago: Nov. 10, 1931

The board of regents of the Teachers College formally approves an exchange of parcels of property on North Henderson Avenue with the Missouri Utilities Co.; the deal will give the college a tract 200 feet square fronting on North Henderson, near the Agriculture Building, which tract also includes the present utilities company reservoir; the company will acquire a similar-sized tract east of this, upon which a new reservoir will be built.

The Cape Girardeau County Health Association is considering a plan to provide night classes for the indigent poor of the county.

100 years ago: Nov. 10, 1906

Bertha Popp of Perryville, Mo., who has been in Cape Girardeau for an extended visit with her brother, Dr. L.F. Popp, and his wife, returns home; Mrs. L.J. Popp of Kennett, Mo., who came up to attend yesterday's reception for the visitor, will return to her home tomorrow.

A wreck on the Houck Railroad early in the morning between Cape Girardeau and Jackson delays the mails.
