To the editor: South Elementary School presented an enjoyable concert Nov. 14 to a full house. The concert was under the direction of music director Pat Palisch. Participants were enthusiastic fourth-graders who gave Ms. Palisch their undivided attention with their obvious love of music. The program included a few short piano solos. The choral music was from different eras, including oldies, bebop, ragtime, Elvis (including a great impersonator) and songs honoring U.S. veterans who served in the Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force. Veterans were asked to stand when the appropriate song was song, and there was a veteran from World War II.

With Ms. Palisch's energy and musical professionalism plus the respect she demands and gets from the choral group, it was a great concert. This was a great eye-opener for one who doesn't attend school functions to see that kids can be polite and follow instructions, especially if the teacher has the know-how to get it.

Thank you, Ms. Palisch, and the choral group.
