VFW Auxiliary 10495

The VFW Auxiliary 10495 met Nov. 9 at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson with Darlene Fluegge, senior vice president, presiding.

Guests were Jennifer Lacy and two other members of the Southeast Missouri Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse. A video was shown to educate the group on what the organization does for children who are victims of child abuse. The group works in conjunction with local and state officials.

Motions were made and passed to make donations for the following: $90 to the Missouri Veterans Home for Christmas gifts; $25 for Operation Uplink, which provides free telephone cards for servicemen; and $50 to the Southeast Missouri Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse. Christmas packages also will be sent to two members' grandsons who are serving in Iraq.

The group plans to walk in the Jackson Christmas parade at 2 p.m. Dec. 2.

The Christmas dinner will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at Delmonico's restaurant. This will be a joint party for the post and auxiliary. All members are invited.

Nancy Hunter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met Nov. 7 at the Lutheran Home activity center with seven members present. It was their patriot meeting, with Dorothy Points, regent, as speaker. Her topic was Hebrews 13:8.

The group had a genealogy workshop Oct. 28 at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center in Jackson.

The next meeting will be the Christmas party and luncheon at noon Dec. 13 at the Missouri Veterans Home.

Arnsberg 4-H Club

The Arnsberg 4-H Club met Oct. 8 and Nov. 2.

The Oct. 8 meeting was held at the home of Kevin and Nancy Hahs. Ethan Seyer presided over the meeting, and Kelly Hahs and Michaela Oehl led the songs. Cody Hahs led the pledges. They had attended the morning worship service at New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy.

The state teen conference was discussed.

The Nov. 2 meeting was at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. Seyer presided over the meeting with Kelly Hahs and Oehl leading the songs.

It was decided that each member would bring a toy to the next meeting for the Toys for Tots campaign for their community service.

Cape Girardeau County AARP

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP 4041 met Nov. 6.

Officers were nominated and voted on. They are: Marci Fuller, president; Grace Hoover, vice president; Opal Collins, secretary; and Ann Smith, treasurer.

Opal Perkins was awarded the Andrus Award for outstanding volunteer work for the local chapter.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 4. Members are to bring snacks and gifts for the children at Jefferson and Blanchard Elementary Schools. Also, there will be installation of officers.

Zonta Club

The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau met Nov. 7 at the University Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Members celebrated the 30th anniversary of the founding of the local club. Club charter members Mary Greaser, Mary Scherer and Naomi Newman were recognized with a plaque that expressed the club's gratitude for their years of service.

A program outlining plans for the expansion of the Cape Girardeau Public Library was presented by Betty Martin. She explained the current situation as well as planned improvements and examples of innovative libraries throughout the United States.

Among projects discussed were plans for organizing a Z Club for high school students.

The club meets the second Monday of the month at Cape Girardeau Public Library. Zonta members also will participate in benefiting the Salvation Army and Missouri Mentoring program.

Wonderworkers Extension

The Wonderworkers Extension Club met Nov. 9 at the home of Joy Engelhart. She gave the devotion.

Christmas cards for Troops for Fan Mail were brought and will be mailed by the end of the month.

Plans were finalized for the Dec. 13 Christmas MEHA Council meeting at the Jackson Extension Center. Each member is to bring a covered dish for the noon luncheon and an item for the silent auction. Also, bring an apron for show and tell.

The next meeting will be the Christmas party at the Red Barn with June Landgraf serving as hostess. Each member is to bring a $5 gift for exchange.
