Advance man committed to mental health dept.

An Advance man who stabbed his mother to death has been committed to the state's Department of Mental Health. According to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Briney Welborn, 50-year-old David Van Gennip was committed after an appearance before Presiding Circuit Judge Stephen Sharp on Dec. 20. Van Gennip was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action relating to the July 28 death of 80-year-old Nada Van Gennip.
