Jackson woman accused of forgery

A Jackson resident was charged Thursday with four counts of felony forgery after police investigated a Dec. 15 report that someone was stealing and cashing personal checks belonging to a man residing with the suspect.

Police questioned Tammy S. Beck, 25, Wednesday after viewing a Dec. 12 surveillance video from an area store showing Beck using one of the victim's checks to buy gasoline, according to the probable-cause statement.

During an interview with police, Beck admitted stealing the checks from the victim's bedroom and forging his signature on about 14 checks totaling more than $400, the statement said.

The victim lived with Beck and her boyfriend. Beck reportedly told police she needed the money for food and Christmas presents.

Bond was set at $5,000.

If convicted of the charges, Beck could face up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Jackson police Sgt. Scott Eakers said Thursday that checks are still coming in. "We don't have a correct total of the amount yet," he said.
