First meeting of Older Driver Safety Program

An overview of the five components of the Older Driver Safety Progam will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 19 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 Clark St. Topics include safe driver training, proper vehicle fit, law enforcement, visual, mental and physical response checks and a chance to receive continuing education credit for attending a three-hour presentation on AMA physician guidelines on older drivers. Applications are being accepted for the statewide competition (with six different age categories) for the Missouri Dream Girls USA Pageant to be held March 2 through 4 in St. Louis. Winners will move on to the national competition in May, where two $10,000 scholarships will be awarded. Girls ages 4 and up may participate. Dairy profit seminar at Cape extension center

Cape Girardeau County Extension Center will hold a 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. dairy profit seminar Feb. 16 at the Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Lunch is included in the registration fee. Speakers include Dr. Elvin Thomas, veterinarian consultant with Elanco; Dave Drennan, Missouri Dairy Association executive director; Dr. Scott Poock, MU Extension veterinarian; and Dr. Tom Vandyke, technical veterinarian consultant with Merial. Audubon Society of Mo. elects board members

The Audubon Society of Missouri recently elected new board members, including Hope Eddleman and Dr. Bill Eddleman, both of Cape Girardeau. The society works with the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Department of Natural Resources to "bird" all conservation areas and state parks and enter the data online.
