Southeast Missouri State University's women's soccer team wound up the Illinois Cup Tournament as co-champion after battling Oakland to a 0-0 tie on Sunday.

The Otahkians (1-0-1) had opened their season and the tournament on Friday by beating Ohio 2-1.

Sunday's game remained scoreless through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.

Oakland held a 17-14 edge in total shots. Southeast goalkeeper Amanda Wrzos made eight saves. Oakland (1-0-1) keeper Sarah Buckland had seven saves.

The Otahkians return to action Friday, visiting Auburn for a 7 p.m. game.

Volleyball starts 0-4

Southeast's volleyball squad concluded a winless season-opening weekend on Sunday by losing to Rhode Island 30-25, 31-29, 27-30, 30-25 in its final match of the Maine Tournament. The Otahkians went 0-4 in the three-day event.

Earlier in the tournament, the Otahkians lost to Maine, Colorado and nationally-ranked Penn State.

Emily Frost led the Otahkians with 18 kills while Suzanne Gundlach had 16 kills and 18 digs. Emily Scannell also had a double-double with 48 assists and 11 digs, to go along with six service aces.

Also for Southeast, freshman Danielle Pegram added 10 kills and Kristen Clark contributed 16 digs.

Scannell made the all-tournament team as she recorded 130 assists in the four matches.

Football ranked 20th

Southeast's football team is ranked 22nd in The Sports Network's first NCAA Division I-AA poll of the regular season, down from 20th in the preseason poll.

The Indians lost their opener 17-3 at Division I-A Ohio Thursday night. They host Southern Illinois Saturday night.
