Storm spotter class offered in Scott County

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., is looking for men and women who will serve as storm spotters in a region that is plagued with severe storms. The weather service will hold a SKYWARN Spotter Training course from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Clinton Building, 501 Campanella, Sikeston, Mo. The class will be presented by National Weather Service meteorologist Greg Meffert, and will be free the public, not limited to Scott County residents. Both basic and advanced certification classes will be held. Certificates will be issued upon completion of the course. For more information on the class or to register, call (573) 545-9113 or (573) 545-9189. For those who can't attend the Scott County class, the National Weather Service has a list of other available classes in the area on its Web site at www.crh.noaa.gov/pah.

Births increase for third year at Twin Rivers

Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center is celebrating a record number of births for 2006. During the year 545 births were recorded at the Kennett hospital. This is the third consecutive year that births have increased at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center with 400 births in 2003, 432 in 2004 and 500 in 2006.
