25 years ago: Feb. 4, 1982

The Cape Girardeau area continues to dig out from the winter's heaviest snowstorm as yet another storm threatens to hit tonight; the National Weather Service says to expect 4 inches or more snow on top of yesterday's 8 to 12 inches.

Two longtime Cape Girardeau Board of Education members say they won't seek re-election, guaranteeing there will be three new faces at the helm of the public schools' administrative body in the spring; J. Kent Cargle and Judi McBride, both members of the board nine years, won't seek new terms.

50 years ago: Feb. 4, 1957

The new Lloyd's Business Equipment Center Inc., announces its opening in a new location at 625 Broadway in Cape Girardeau; formerly, it was Lloyd's Business Machines Co., and was located on North Spanish Street; Lloyd E. Loberg is president of the firm.

A 1957 budget of $384,184.08 is approved by the Cape Girardeau County Court; compared with the 1956 budget, this is an increase of $20,524.05.

75 years ago: Feb. 4, 1932

There is a report that a woman may run for the Cape Girardeau City Commission; Mrs. H.G. Gramling and Mrs. L.J. Pott have both been mentioned as possible candidates.

The new water plant at Cape Rock of the Missouri Utilities Co. won't be placed in service until formal approval of it has been given by the Public Service Commission of Missouri; the plant is now ready for use, but company officials say they desire the commission's approval before actually placing it in operation.

100 years ago: Feb. 4, 1907

Aleck Vasterling, Joseph Goldbaum, Gus Vogelsang, Gust. Schultz, Joe Albert and Drs. W.C. Patton and R.F. Wichterich met Saturday at Vasterling's office and discussed municipal politics thoroughly; after all the phases had been gone over, Patton finally agreed to make the race for Cape Girardeau mayor.

The Cape Girardeau City Council receives three bids to construct the city sewer system, which the people provided for over two years ago; the contract is let to the second lowest bidder, Walter Coonan, of East St. Louis, Ill.
