Notre Dame used a seventh-inning rally to tie the game and an eighth-inning run Saturday to clinch its own Softballfest title 3-2 over Kelly.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Sarah Michel led off with a double for the Bulldogs (6-0). After a Lindsay Reinagel walk Rachel Ruopp singled home Michel to tie the game. Notre Dame had a chance to win in regulation but failed to score with runners on second and third with no outs.

Reinagel's only hit of the game in the eighth drove home the winning run. Reinagel pitched all eight innings for Notre Dame, allowing six hits. Alana Weissmueller and Michel had two hits apiece for Notre Dame.

In the semifinals, Robyn Beel struck out five and walked none for the complete-game 6-1 victory over Park Hills Central. Weissmueller and Whitney Ostendorf had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

SOCCER

Central 7, Notre Dame 0

Central's experience showed in the Soccerfest final in a rout over Notre Dame.

The Tigers, who have 13 seniors on the roster, improved to 3-0. Heath Orr scored the first two goals of the game, and the Tigers led 3-0 at halftime.

Matt Hellrich, Calen Wills, Aaron Bornstein, Josh Fee and Eddie Glenn added goals for Central. Jordan Duncan and Luke Kester had assists. Tony Leuckel and Jordan Young combined for the shutout.

Carbondale, Ill., shut out Jackson 3-0 to finish third. Poplar Bluff won in a shootout to finish fifth. Sikeston and Marion, Ill., tied 2-2 for seventh.

VOLLEYBALL

Villa Duchesne 16-25-25, Notre Dame 25-22-22

Notre Dame lost to Villa Duchesne in three games of the semifinals of the Notre Dame Volleyballfest.

The Bulldogs made it to the semifinals after sweeping Dexter and Caruthersville and splitting two games with Rosary.

In the final, Laura Browne led Notre Dame with seven kills and seven blocks. Amanda Essner added eight blocks in the semifinal. Allison Essner and Sommer McCauley both reached double figures in assists with 13 and 10 respectively.

For the tournament, McCauley and Allison Essner had 26 assists apiece.

Rosary won the tournament in two games over Villa.

Notre Dame's junior varsity team won the silver bracket championship over St. Vincent in three games.

Eagle Ridge 25-25, Trinity 4-6

Eagle Ridge is 7-2 after sweeping Carbondale (Ill.) Trinity in Cape Girardeau on Friday.

Chelsey Clark had 11 points and Ashley Hughes eight for Eagle Ridge. Hughes added 11 assists. Autumn Crowden had 10 kills, four aces and three points, and Rachel Carbaugh had four kills and three aces.

Eagle Ridge's JV won 15-0, 15-4.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jackson Invitational

Central got a team win from its sophomore boys in Saturday's Jackson Invitational.

The annual meet pits each school's individual classes against each other, with team scores for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors.

John Kipper finished second (13:18), Daniel Austin fifth (13:38), Bryan Schott ninth (13:47) and Carson Kelly was 33rd (15:35).

Individually Central had two winners. Linnea Woldtvedt was the top sophomore girl in 16:12 and Jennifer Pancoast won the junior girls race in 14:33.

Jackson's lone winner was freshman Ashley Miller. Miller finished in 13:37. Other top finishers for the Indians were sophomore David Welker (11th) and juniors Rachel Lowes (6th) and Rachel Schmidt (8th)

Notre Dame did not have any team or individual winners but did have several individual medalists. Notre Dame's top finishers were freshman Casey Crawford in third (13:49), sophomore Matt Pfau in sixth (13:45) and senior Sam Montgomery in ninth (13:04).

Kelly had two individual medalist. Junior Michael Glastetter finished fifth, and freshman Emily Stroebel was seventh. Oak Ridge had an individual medalist in senior Melinda Schoen, who finished 11th.

BASEBALL

Woodland splits a pair

Woodland started its fall baseball season with a doubleheader split.

Woodland lost a pitchers duel to West County 2-1 and defeated Bunker 7-2. Matt Upchurch took the loss in the first five-inning game despite allowing only three hits and one earned run.

Anthony Grojean picked up the win for the Cardinals in the second game. Grojean struck out nine and allowed three hits. Scott Crader led the offense with two doubles and two RBIs. Kent McCormack added two hits and two RBIs for Woodland.
