Two area men injured in single-car accident

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a single-car accident with injuries at 2:01 p.m. Wednesday on Route F, four miles west of Gordonville in Cape Girardeau County. Joseph D. Highfill, 25, of Advance, Mo., was southbound on the highway when the 1991 Ford Ranger he was driving crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a creek embankment, according to a highway patrol report Thursday. Highfill was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center with moderate injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Jeremy J. Plumb, 32, of Advance was also taken to Saint Francis with minor injuries, the report said.

Materials in construction company's truck burn

Cape Girardeau firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at about 2:45 p.m. Thursday on North Kingshighway near the Interstate 55 exchange. Capt. Dean Lynn said construction workers, employed by SEMO Roofing Co. in Jackson, noticed insulation and building materials on the back of the truck were on fire and pulled to the side of the road to call for help. The fire was extinguished in 12 minutes, Lynn said, and the cause of the fire is undetermined. No one was injured.
