Teen arrested for carrying gun to school

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- A Caruthersville teen was arrested Monday and charged with unlawful use of a weapon by carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon on school premises during a school-sanctioned activity. Lanee A. May, 17, is being held at the Pemiscot County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. Caruthersville police said officers went to the high school at about 9 a.m. Monday to assist the school administration in conducting a search with metal detectors of the building prior to a Black History Month assembly. School administrators had been alerted by one of the teachers to possible suspicious activity in one of the bathrooms. During a search, a gun was located in a bathroom of one of the buildings. The weapon was confiscated by police and taken into evidence.

Sikeston DPS recovers $5,000 in property

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Department of Public Safety officers served a search warrant at 309 Malcolm St. Tuesday for property obtained illegally over the Internet. Evidence obtained during the search led to the arrest of the occupant, Sheridan Brockman, 41, of Sikeston. The investigation began when detectives received a call from a victim in Arkansas, who told the detectives a a stolen credit-card number was being used. The victim stated that a package was scheduled for delivery on Tuesday to 309 Malcolm St. After the delivery of the package to the residence, officers served the search warrant. Detectives found property that had been delivered to the residence by UPS and Federal Express services that was purchased with stolen credit-card numbers. Some items recovered during the search were Palm Pilots, a variety of shoes, cell phones, bicycles and clothing items. The property has an estimated value of $5,000. Brockman was charged by Scott County prosecutor Paul Boyd with identity theft, one count each of felony and misdemeanor stealing, and felony receiving stolen property. He is in Scott County Jail under $25,000 bond.
