In observance of Youth Art Month a selection of artwork from Jackson students kindergarten to grade 12 will be on display today to Saturday at West Park Mall.

Tornado drill marks severe weather week

A statewide tornado drill at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will be initiated using the NOAA Weather Warning System. Weather Tone Alert Radios and the Emergency Alert System will broadcast the tornado drill message over radio and television stations. The National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., will initiate the statewide drill. As part of the city's participation in severe weather week, today through Friday, this alert will also be sent out on all citywide radio frequencies, pagers and citywide e-mail. Each community outdoor warning siren will also be activated for this drill and should take less than 15 minutes to complete. Cities participating in the drill include Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City. Southeast Missouri State University will also participate. The test will be rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday if Missouri is experiencing statewide severe weather conditions.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary holds euchre tourney

The Morley VFW Ladies Auxiliary will hold a meal and euchre tournament at 6 p.m. March 24. Play begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission fee includes meal and will benefit the auxiliary cancer fund. For more information, call Rosalia Friga at 262-2110.

Neighborhood watch captains hold meeting

Neighborhood Watch captains will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at 101 N. Fountain St., Cape Girardeau. Everyone is invited to attend the general meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. The group will discuss the importance of building relationships in housing. Guest speaker will be Tim Morgan, director of Inspection Services. For more information, call 651-4567.

Alma Schrader 'stuff-a-bear night' expands

The Alma Schrader Elementary School's "Stuff-A-Bear Factory Night," from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, has increased the number of animal kits and outfits to choose from. Instead of four animal styles, the selection has expanded to 15 styles, with the same number of outfits available. The school is at 1360 Randol Ave. in Cape Girardeau.

Deadline for Eagles scholarship is June 30

A first-time scholarship from Cape Girardeau Eagles 3775 has funds available for the 2007 to 2008 school year. Applications will allow for trade schools as well as college, based on need and academics. Deadline is June 30. Email capeeagles@sbcglobal.net for application.
