Redhawks notch 5-0 home win

~ Southeast starter Renfrow blanked Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Dustin Renfrow baffled opposing hitters and allowed only one runner past second base in a complete-game shutout Friday at Capaha Field.

Renfrow struck out five and walked one to lead Southeast Missouri State to a 5-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a nonconference baseball game that kicked off a three-game, two-day series.

The teams meet today in a 1 p.m. doubleheader that will conclude Southeast's eight-game homestand.

Renfrow, a junior in his first year at Southeast after transferring from Jefferson College, lowered his earned run average to 1.45. The right-hander, who was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2005, improved to 2-0 in five starts covering 31 innings.

Renfrow allowed four hits, none from the second through the eighth innings. He struck out five and walked one.

The Redhawks (9-6) provided an early lead when freshman Jim Klocke's single drove in freshman Nick Harris in the first inning. Harris had singled, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher.

Southeast, which had only six hits but drew seven walks, struck for a pair of runs in the fifth and another two in the sixth.

Omar Padilla and Daniel Schuh both finished with two runs batted in apiece.

Padilla delivered a two-out, two-RBI double in the fifth inning that drove in Asif Shah and Robby Moore.

Schuh had a bases-loaded double in the sixth inning.

Southeast now is 3-3 on the homestand. After finishing up today with the Golden Lions (4-13), the Redhawks play Tuesday and Wednesday at Central Arkansas.
