Chaffee swept the boys and girls titles the Chaffee Open track meet on Wednesday.

Kelly, Bell City, East Prairie, Scott County Central and Oran also participated.

Chaffee's boys scored 145, while Kelly was second with 95, Scott County Central (27) was fourth and Oran (19) fifth.

On the girls side Chaffee finished with 169, while Bell City (101) came in second, Kelly (79) finished third, Scott County Central (65) was fourth and Oran (19) sixth.

Chaffee's Whitney Schlosser placed first in the discus and second in the shot put.

Wade Wiseman hit a walkoff single in extra innings and Leopold completed a late comeback to defeat Bloomfield at home.

Cody Van De Ven had four hits, including two for extra bases, and drove in three runs.

Matt Stoverink pitched all eight innings for the Wildcats, allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out 10 hitters.

Scott City exploded for nine runs in the seventh inning to crush Valle on the road.

Ryan Modglin led off the seventh with a solo home run. Jaris Hye hit a three-run homer later in the inning, and Blake Dirnberger added another three-run homer.

Dirnberger finished with two hits and three RBI. He also pitched four innings, allowing one run on one hit.

Shae Simmons picked up his first victory of the year on the mound for the Rams, throwing three innings allowing only one hit.

Kelly Eftink drove home the game-winning run in the bottom of seventh with a double down the line to lead Leopold past visiting Bloomfield.

Whitney Vandeven allowed one run on two hits while striking out 13 batters as she improved to 2-0 on the mound for the Wildcats.

  • Central's junior high track teams fell to Poplar Bluff. On the boys side, Zach Horrell placed first in the 400- and 200-meter runs, the discus, and was on the winning 800-meter relay team. Tyneshi Ivy won four events for the girls, capturing the 75-meter low hurdles, high jump, 200 meters, and was on the first-place 400 relay team.
