The Jackson girls track team ran away with the Perryville Invitational title Saturday, led by four first-place finishes by senior Rachel Kahle.

The Indians finished with 164 points, well ahead of Hillsboro's 102. Perryville was fourth with 65 points, and Notre Dame was tied for 10th with 26.

Kahle won the 100 meters, the 200, the long jump and the triple jump. Heather Hileman (300 hurdles), Amanda Peiffer (shot put) and Jill Rushin (discus) also won individual events. The Indians also won the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Brittney Castleberry had four top-five finishes for the Pirates, including a first-place finish in the 100 hurdles.

Adam Zweigert (400), Alex Austin (pole vault) and Jacob Bullinger (discus) won events for Jackson's boys team. The Indians finished fourth.

Potosi was first, followed by Poplar Bluff. Perryville finished seventh, and Notre Dame and Saxony Lutheran tied for eighth.

Perryville's boys won the 800 relay. Relay members were Brandon Kennon, Josh Perreault, Matt Lukefahr and Kris Cotner.

Saxony Lutheran captured the 1,600 relay in 3 minutes, 30.05. seconds. Brandon Etzold, Andrew Etzold, Alex Jauch and Max Wieser ran on the relay.

The Central girls topped the 20-team field at the Gateway Invitational with a balanced effort.

The Tigers had just one top finish -- Tiffany Mead in the 400. All four Central relays finished in the top five.

The Central boys finished third behind McCluer and St. Louis University High.

Matt Willingham (pole vault), Tyler Terry (long jump) and Tyler Yeargain (200 steeplechase) each had first-place finishes.

Festus Tournament

Notre Dame opened the season with a pair of losses at the weather-delayed Festus Tournament.

The Bulldogs fell 6-0 to host Festus and 9-1 to North County.

Mark Himmelberg allowed three earned runs in five innings against Festus. In their second game, the Bulldogs committed five errors. Dylan Drury allowed just one earned run in five innings.
