JUPITER, Fla. -- Adam Wainwright's final start in Florida was his best of the spring.

Wainwright pitched six scoreless innings in the St. Louis Cardinals' 3-1 victory over the Florida Marlins. He allowed four hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter.

"Today was my best performance," Wainwright said. "I felt like I was a pitcher and not just a thrower. It's the best I've felt all spring."

The right-hander lowered his spring ERA to 0.98. He will start the Cardinals exhibition game in Memphis on Saturday against Cleveland before making his season debut April 7 at Houston.

"His line was an accurate reflection of how well he pitched," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said.

La Russa was not as excited about his erratic offense. Scott Rolen had an RBI double and Adam Kennedy drove in a run with a single in the Cardinals sixth. Aaron Miles added an RBI in the eighth.

"I hope all of a sudden it clicks in," La Russa said. "The quality of our at-bats is erratic. The quality of our execution is erratic."

  • Yadier Molina missed his sixth straight game because of a sore shoulder. He is expected to return in the next day or two.
