Vision 2020 committee meets Wednesday

The Vision 2020 Transportation Committee, also known as the Riverfront Team, will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chamber of Commerce in Cape Girardeau.

Emerson's mobile office making stops this week

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson's mobile office makes one scheduled stop in all 28 counties monthly. Mobile office director Darren Lingle will be able to answer the public's questions and write down constitutent concerns.

The office's schedule this week is:

Today: From 10 to 11 a.m. at the Heritage House, Sikeston, and from 12 to 1 p.m. at Charleston Library.

Thursday: From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Advance City Hall, 2 to 3 p.m. at Oran City Hall and from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Chaffee City Hall.

Lace guild holding displays at libraries

In celebration of National Lace Day on Oct. 1, the Heartland Lace Guild is holding a "Lace Marathon."

Before Oct. 1, displays will be at three Southeast Missouri libraries: today to Oct. 1, Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 North Clark St.; Tuesday to Oct. 1, Riverside Regional Library, 2106 Main St., Scott City; Sept. 23 to Oct. 1, Riverside Regional Library, 204 S. Union, Jackson.

Demonstrations will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Public Library and from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Riverside Regional Library in Scott City.

Parents group learning how to line dance

Parents Without Partners will attend line dance lessons from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Circle S Saddle in Gordonville.

Cross-country coach speaking to Optimists

The Noon Optimists will meet at noon Wednesday at Delmonico's in Jackson. A business meeting and program by Andrea Talley, Jackson High School cross-country coach, is on the agenda.

Scott City arts center holding flea market

The deadline for applications to sell or promote merchandise at the Craft and Flea Market at Schock Community Arts Center, 116 E. Hickory, Scott City is Oct. 1. The craft and flea market will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18.

There is no limit to the amount of spaces purchased. Electricity is available. The annual Scott City Halloween Parade, scheduled for the same day, ends at the front of the Schock building.

Collectibles show at arena coming up

Dealers may sign up to reserve a space at the 2003 Semiannual Antique and Collectibles Show on Oct. 12 at the A.C. Brase Arena Building, Arena Park, Cape Girardeau. The preshow sale is from 8 to 9 a.m.; the show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Community Counseling Center Foundation to be used for providing improved facilities, equipment and services for individuals with mental illness.

Church sponsoring new Brownie troop

St. Mark Lutheran Church ELCA will be sponsoring a Girl Scout troop for first-year Brownies. Girls who are in first grade and/or 6 years old as of Oct. 1 are welcome to join. The troop will meet bimonthly at the church, 1900 Cape LaCroix Road, Cape Girardeau. Meetings will be on a Friday evening and a Sunday afternoon during the month.

Alternative center holding night for parents

Parents of students attending the Alternative Education Center in Cape Girardeau are invited to a back-to-school night from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at 1000 S. Ranney.

A brief welcome, tour of the school and opportunities to meet with teachers are on the agenda.

Bell City High School reunion scheduledA high school reunion will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Bell City Community Building in Bell City. All former students and graduates are invited. There is a cost for the meal.
