St. Vincent grabbed the automatic team berth into the state golf tournament with a convincing victory in the Class 1, District 1 tournament Wednesday at the Ste. Genevieve Golf Course.

The Indians downed defending district champion and state runner-up Thayer by 17 strokes. St. Vincent finished with a 327, followed by Thayer with a 344. First-year program Saxony Lutheran came in third with a 373 and fellow first-year program Advance was fifth with a 414.

"I think every one of our kids shot a couple of strokes below their average," St. Vincent coach Tom Prost said.

St. Vincent senior Zachary Richardet was district champion with a 76. Senior teammate Corey Brueckner came in second with a 78. Richardet and Brueckner were both all-state last year.

"He [Richardet] was realy doing very well, he and Corey both," Prost said. "They both were striking the ball really well."

David Rhoden came in fourth with an 84 for the Indians, Jason Carron tied for eighth with an 89 and Lucas Schumer tied for 11th with a 90.

Saxony Lutheran senior Clay Obergoenner and sophomore teammate Tyler James qualified as individuals with an 89 and 91, respectively. Alex Jauch missed out by a shot with a 92, and Ben Skelton rounded out Saxony's scorers with a 101.

The Class 1 state tournament will be May 14 and 15 at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

TRACKSimpson Relays

Perryville's girls and boys took third at the Simpson Relays in Farmington.

Kris Cottner won the 400 and finished second in the 200 meters to lead the boys.

Cassie Lawrence captured first-place finishes in the long jump and pole vault and took third in the triple jump. Brittany Castleberry won the 300 Hurdles and took second in both the 100 and triple jump.
